The Galt Museum & Archives/Fort Whoop-Up, is accepting applications for up to six term positions of Fort Interpreter at Fort Whoop-Up. As a member of an energetic team of interpretive staff and volunteers, you will be primarily responsible for providing exceptional visitor experiences through first/third person interpretation to visitors of Fort Whoop-Up Interpretive Site. These positions may be funded, in part, through a grant.


Approximately four months (May through August 2018)


Up to 37.5 hours per week (including evenings, weekends, holidays)


$20.00 per hour


This is a unique job that will combine learning about, and providing interpretation for, the history of Fort Whoop-Up from 1870s to the 1890s. Dressed in period costume, you will provide first/third person interpretation, front-line visitor services in the Visitor Centre, and deliver educational experiences that are both engaging and entertaining to visitors of all ages, from school groups to families. Daily duties for all site staff will include opening and closing of the site and assistance with all visitor services needs. This includes collection of admission fees, administering site surveys, gift shop and concession sales, wagon ride tours. Historical activities will include, but are not limited to, gardening, cooking, crafts and maintaining the general cleanliness of the site: the visitor centre, barracks and compound.


You should be a student of Canadian History, Education, Indigenous Studies, Performing Arts or be a Museum/Heritage major. You must possess writing composition skills, be proficient at word processing, have good public speaking skills and be able to work well with people of all ages. Previous teaching, drama or museum experience would be an asset, as would fluency in another language such as French, German or Blackfoot and experience in marketing and social media. The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required. A current First Aid certificate is also required at start date.
