A’kistotsii’pa Experience

  • Fort Whoop-Up 200 Indian Battle Road South Lethbridge, AB, Canada (map)

The Niitsitapi or Blackfoot people have been living in what is now Alberta, Saskatchewan and Montana for generations before the arrival of Europeans and the construction of Fort Whoop-Up. In this experience, our interpreters will provide a window into Niitsitapi traditions and practices through multiple activities and histories.

Our interpreters guide participants on a customized tour of the fort’s exhibits that will let visitors envision the prairies as they were known by the Niitsitapi, discuss the cultural impacts of trade between Fort Whoop-Up and the Niitsitapi people, learn and practice beading, and partake in traditional Niitsitapi food and beverages such as bannock, mint tea, and berry soup for lunch.

At the conclusion of the tour, guests will receive a Niitsitapi-inspired gift to take home as a souvenir of their experience.
