Upcoming events
Fort Whoop-Up tells the story of the buffalo robe trade, the years leading up to and the years that followed. We will be telling the story of this region, and the people here, from the mid-1860s to the early 1890s. It is a complex story that includes the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), other First Nations, Métis, Canadians, Americans, and British. It is a story of trade and politics, good people and notorious characters, and the flow of time.
The museum offers guided tours with our knowledgeable interpreters, with the price of admission. Tours offer a great way to explore the history of southern Alberta, while listening to interesting stories along the way.
Admission to the fort also includes a wagon ride throughout the river valley. Led by an experienced teamster and accompanied by an interpreter, the Fort's wagon tours take visitors on a ride through the legends of the Lethbridge river valley.
Group Experiences
Experience the fort like never before with exclusive group tours and packages. These experiences are perfect for larger groups who want to experience the rich history presented at the fort.
Make a day of it!
Fort Whoop-Up is just outside of downtown Lethbridge. You can spend the morning exploring downtown, then stroll down the footpaths from the Galt Museum & Archives to arrive at our back door. Or you can drive down the coulees and park in our lot.
You can also go on a lovely walk by the Oldman River right to the base of the High Level Bridge before heading back up the trails for a great active day!
